Frequently asked questions
Everything people want to know before they let Bear answer for them, from what it handles to where your data sits.
The Bear and your desk
Which channels does Beardesk cover?
Eleven: live chat on your site, email, phone calls, SMS, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, X, TikTok and LINE. Every plan gets all eleven. Wherever someone writes from, it lands in one inbox, so your team is not watching eleven apps.
What languages does Bear AI answer in?
Whatever language your client writes in. Your site can be in one language and Bear will still answer someone who writes in another.
How does Bear learn about my business?
It reads your website and anything else you point it at, and builds a knowledge base from what it finds. That reading uses AI credits, the same ones its replies use. Afterwards you can read back what it has said and correct anything wrong, and it answers the new way from then on.
Can Bear actually do things, or only answer?
It does the thing where it can, instead of telling your client where to go and click. That is the difference between Bear and a chatbot that reads your help pages back at people. If it cannot finish something, it passes the conversation to your team with the whole history attached.
Can Bear speak, or only type?
Both. It answers by voice or by text, on the channels that carry each, so a voice chat gets the same answer as a text chat. Voice is not a separate product and not a separate price.
What if Bear does not know the answer?
It says so, instead of making something up, and passes the conversation to your team. Whoever picks it up can read everything said so far.
Can I see and correct what Bear tells people?
Yes. Every conversation is in your inbox to read back. If Bear got something wrong, you fix its knowledge base and it answers correctly next time.
Can I take over a conversation myself?
Any time. Every conversation is in your shared inbox with its full history, so you can read what has been said before you type. Bear also hands over on its own when it meets something it cannot answer.
Does Bear answer outside my business hours?
Yes, at any hour. That is most of the point: a question at two in the morning gets the same answer as one at two in the afternoon. Anything Bear cannot handle is waiting for you in the morning, and the person has already been told someone will come back to them.
Do I need a developer to set this up?
It depends on the channel. The website widget is one snippet to paste, which most people manage on their own. Channels like WhatsApp or phone mean signing in to those accounts and connecting them, which is fiddly rather than technical. Our support team will do any of it with you.
How long does setup take?
The widget works the moment the snippet is on your site. Each other channel has a short setup of its own, so the total depends on how many you connect. You do not have to do them all at once.
Can I try Bear before it answers real clients?
Yes. Nothing is live until you add the snippet or connect a channel. So you can set Bear up, point it at your pages, ask it the awkward questions yourself and fix what it gets wrong, all before a client sees it. The seven day trial is there for exactly this.
Can I add a channel part-way through my term?
Any time, at no extra cost. Every plan already has all eleven, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to upgrade. Start with the widget and add WhatsApp next month if you like.
How many people can I add to my account?
One on Solo, five on Team, ten on Business. Bear does not take a seat: they are for your people. Past ten, talk to us about Enterprise.
Can two people work the same inbox?
Yes. Every conversation from every channel lands in one shared inbox, so whoever is free picks it up rather than it sitting unread in one person’s messages. Whoever takes it can read everything said so far, by Bear or by a colleague.
Can I leave notes my clients cannot see?
Yes. Private notes sit on the conversation for your team only, so you can hand something over with the context attached. Your client sees the replies, never the notes.
Can I save replies I send often?
Yes. Canned replies are for the message you send word for word again and again. Macros are for the ones that carry a few steps with them. Both are on every plan.
What does beardesk connect to?
Shopify, Slack and Linear. There is no integrations tier: what one plan connects to, all three do.
Plans, billing and the trial
Is there a free plan?
No. Every plan starts with a free trial instead, so you can put Bear in front of real clients before you pay. Cancel before the trial is over and nothing is charged.
How does the free trial work?
Seven days with everything switched on. Nothing is held back and nothing waits behind a paid plan. It takes a card to start, and there is one trial per account. Cancel before the seven days are over and nothing is charged. Leave it running and your plan starts on its own, at the price you saw.
Can I change plan later?
Any time. You are not locked into the one you start on. Every plan has the same features, so moving up or down changes your seats and your AI credits, not what Bear can do.
What if I need more seats than my plan allows?
Move up a plan. Solo has one seat, Team five and Business ten, and moving up raises your AI credits too. Past ten people, talk to us about Enterprise.
What is an AI credit?
What Bear spends to work. Every reply it writes costs credits, and so does every page it reads while learning your business. Plans come with 50, 100 and 200 million. One meter covers both jobs, so there is no second allowance to watch.
What happens when I use up my AI credits?
Bear stops writing new replies and those conversations go to your team inbox, so nobody is left waiting. Nothing is billed on top. If you run out most months, move up a plan.
Are conversations really unlimited?
Yes, on every plan, including the cheapest. The meter is on the replies Bear writes, through AI credits, not on how many conversations you have. Nobody is counting your chats. Fair usage applies.
Is annual billing cheaper?
Yes, by 20% on every plan. The switch above the plans shows both figures. Annual is paid once, up front, for the twelve months.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, from your account, without asking anyone. You keep beardesk until the term you paid for is over, and it does not renew.
Can I get a refund?
No, we do not give refunds. You can cancel any time and keep beardesk until the term you paid for is over. The free trial is there so you can be sure first.
Your data and security
Do you use my conversations to train AI models?
No. They are never used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s, and we never sell them. The AI providers that write Bear’s replies see a message only to answer it, under terms that forbid anything else.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes, on the way to us and while it is stored.
Where is my data processed?
Beardesk is based in India, and the providers we use are in several countries, including European Economic Area and the UK. The privacy policy lists the safeguards, and you can contact us for more information anytime.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
We keep it for 90 days, then delete it. Those 90 days are there so you can change your mind, or take a copy of your conversations and your knowledge base first. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Write to our support team and we will arrange it. If you have cancelled, the 90 days before deletion are there to give you the time.
Do you follow GDPR?
Yes. The privacy policy is written to the GDPR and to India’s DPDP Act. It sets out what you can ask of us, how to ask, and how long we have to answer. Write to privacy@beardesk.ai and it reaches the person responsible.
